As for the first part, yes, people will be confused. They’ll also probably get overwhelmed with emails. I stopped looking at Medium’s Daily story recommendations long ago.

As for the second part, it will also come as a surprise when people start getting spammed to sign up for classes on ‘How to make $100,000 on Medium’.

That said, it will be useful for writers to have a way to go directly to their readers--particularly if the writers use their email lists in good faith.
